Bridgetown Conservatory Flyer

The Wilson Arts Online Gallery

It's Alive! For those of you who didn't know, the Wilson Visual and Performing Arts have been joining together to create pieces of art around themes exploring our newfound norm of home seclusion.  HOME, SELF, BALANCE, and CONNECTION have been themes of our work so far, with more to come. A part of that has been to create and inspire artwork as a part of this isolation that we can share with our community.  As of now, that Gallery is live! Wilson Arts On The Web While the Theatre community (ahem!) has been a bit slow to respond, there are some amazing pieces from across the Arts disciplines up there now.  Take a moment to scroll through and see what your colleagues have been doing with their time away from Wilson...and just maybe you'll be inspired to see what you can create and share! **Note: You'll need to be logged in to your PPS Google account to be able to access the Gallery...It's not set for full Public view for a variety of reasons... j.

Happy Birthday, August Wilson

A very happy birthday to an unarguably landmark African-American poet, playwright, and visionary.  His unflinching looks at the Black experience over the 20th Century are powerful examples of the ability of Theatre to examine and reflect life, heightened. Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and forgiveness.  Your willingness to wrestle with your demons will cause your angels to sing. -August Wilson Stream audio recordings of Wilson's classic Pittsburgh Cycle plays at the link below: The Pittsburgh Cycle **NOTE: Wilson's plays frequently employ racially-loaded and coarse language, and mature situations.  Most would be rated PG-13 or R.  Please listen with discretion**

The Ultimate Viewing Archive!

Through the hard work of a PPS Theatre Educator (not me...), we have been granted, through May 20th, access to the entire archive of England's National Theatre, including 1000's of plays (including huge stars, like Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Hopkins, Maggie Smith, David Tennant, Tom Hiddleston, and many more! You need to explore this! **NOTE - This archive is all ages, and each play has a listed rating!  I won't tell folks what is appropriate for their family and viewing situation, so PLEASE read the ratings and descriptions on EACH play you choose to view.  Their play rating system tops out at a 15+, I believe...please view thoughtfully** That disclaimer out of the way...dive in!  There are shows, theatrical books...I can't even begin to describe.  EXPLORE IT! WHS Arts Online Gallery Opportunity.

Email me directly at mjamie@pps.net to talk about how!

Anyone Miss Improv-ing?

If there's anyone out there who misses a little of the old improv, I came across this little nugget! Bodecker Foundation VIRTUAL IMPROV WORKSHOP I don't know the group myself, but a trusted colleague recommends it...if you jump in on this, let me know how it goes! j.

It's Time To Start The Music...

...it's time to light the lights, to quote a classic.  It is time to get the Company back up and functional. After a break, longer than intended but unfortunately necessary on my end to get my part of the world sorted out, it is very definitely time to get this part of our lives back into flow as, believe it or not, there are some potential things to tackle: -Troscars -Thespian Inductions -Graduation Cords -Beginning Planning for Ashland? -Senior Video/Interviews -Beginning Show Planning? ...and just a chance to get some face time with each other. I'm planning on a Google Meet at 100pm next Friday just to get the wheels greased and to get us moving.  ANYONE WHO WANTS TO COME CAN JOIN!  The day before, I'll post some guidelines and norms for the meeting, and I'd like to connect with T-Board earlier in the week.  Thanks for your patience everyone!  I'm hoping to see you all next week! j.

The Week in Theatre Streaming!

Hey there, theatre friends! Here is your weekly dose of free streaming options for live theatre performances...and some bonus content! Remember, if you're in one of my classes, then viewing theatre will be an available learning opportunity (as I mentioned in the class assignments earlier this week); if you're not in one of my classes (but why wouldn't you be...really?), then, again, consider these as some interesting options to see some live theatre and keep those creative juices flowing. Here are a few links for this week: National Theatre Live - This Week: Twelfth Night  (April 23-30) The Shows Must Go On!/Lloyd Webber - This Week:  Love Never Dies (April 24-25) Other Listings (from Filmed Onstage):  LINK Documentary: For those of you who love shows like How It's Made, or How Stuff Works, here is a link to the theatre version...very easy to go down a rabbit hole with these: Working In The Theatre ...And from the Geek Files: A quick retrospective by one

Must-See Streaming! Our Very Own State-Qualifier...

FRIDAY NIGHT SPOTLIGHTS TO SHINE ON OREGON HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE STUDENTS (from Oregon Thespians) High school theatre students from more than 20 high schools across Oregon (including Wilson High School's own Rivkah Zigman, a State Showcase Qualifier from this year's Regional Acting Competition) will star in FRIDAY NIGHT SPOTLIGHTS, a live streaming event on April 17 at 7:30 pm Pacific Time.  Hosted by Portland-based actor Isaac Lamb, this special event will showcase performances from living rooms, kitchens, and basements in homes from all regions of the state, and feature leaders from the Oregon Arts Community and beyond. The bulk of the performances will be solo musical presentations, originally prepared for Oregon Thespians' annual State Festival, which was to have been April 2-4 in Salem.  Selected duets, monologues, and scenes will also be featured, in addition to the work of selected Technical Theatre students in such areas as lighting design, make-up design

For Your Theatrical Viewing Pleasure...

For all you theatre-starved folks out there in the world, allow me to say...the world of Live Theatre has got your back!  A number of Companies from around the world have begun posting links to live and recorded streams of some of their very best work, including Disney, England's National Theatre and Andrew Lloyd Webber's personal catalog. I'll be posting on a reasonably frequent basis how to get to some of these online viewing opportunities.  If you're in one of my classes, then viewing theatre will be an available learning opportunity (as I mentioned in the class announcements earlier this week); if you're not in one of my classes (but why wouldn't you be...really?), then consider these as some interesting options to see some live theatre...but not really live.  Anyway... Here are a few links for this week: National Theatre Live - This Week: Treasure Island  (April 16-22) The Shows Must Go On!/Lloyd Webber - This Week: The Phantom Of The Opera  (Apr

A Phoenix From The Ashes

Hi there, all - Allow me to take an opportunity to dust off an old tool... THE SOUTHWEST STAGEWORKS [(SW)2] BLOG! As we navigate 100 new tools for communication, and are inundated with a million reach-outs from every conceivable source, I've been searching for a way to connect with folks about Company stuff: viewing opportunities, Thespians news, Troscars/Letters information...all the normal stuff we'd have going on at this time of year, and perhaps beyond. Set a bookmark for this page, if you're a member of the (SW)2 community, and you want the latest in news and information about things going on!  I'll/We'll send out alerts via Remind and Insta as postings go up (or you could sign up for notifications on this very page). As with everything else right now, this will take a minute or two to get fully up and running...so be patient!  That said, I'm looking forward to this having a bunch of content for all y'all very soon. Take care, be well, a
