Must-See Streaming! Our Very Own State-Qualifier...

FRIDAY NIGHT SPOTLIGHTS TO SHINE ON OREGON HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE STUDENTS
(from Oregon Thespians)

High school theatre students from more than 20 high schools across Oregon (including Wilson High School's own Rivkah Zigman, a State Showcase Qualifier from this year's Regional Acting Competition) will star in FRIDAY NIGHT SPOTLIGHTS, a live streaming event on April 17 at 7:30 pm Pacific Time.  Hosted by Portland-based actor Isaac Lamb, this special event will showcase performances from living rooms, kitchens, and basements in homes from all regions of the state, and feature leaders from the Oregon Arts Community and beyond.

The bulk of the performances will be solo musical presentations, originally prepared for Oregon Thespians' annual State Festival, which was to have been April 2-4 in Salem.  Selected duets, monologues, and scenes will also be featured, in addition to the work of selected Technical Theatre students in such areas as lighting design, make-up design, and stage management.

While the primary focus of the event is to provide these students, whose school year was interrupted by the COVID-19 Crisis, an audience and a forum to perform and celebrate the creative resilience nurtured by arts education, viewers will also learn about an opportunity to give to Oregon Thespians, in an effort to help the state's many high school theatre programs maintain their involvement with this larger theatre education community.

The event will be streamed live at Oregon Thespians' YouTube channel, which can be accessed on Friday from a link at www.oregonthespians.org.  Portions of the presentation will be available for viewing at this site following the 2-hour live event.

Oregon Thespians is an affiliate of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), whose mission is to shape lives through theatre education. EdTA honors student achievement in theatre, supports teachers by providing professional resources, and influences public opinion that theatre education is essential for building life skills.
