A Week of Restarting!

Hey there, StageWorks...this is a week where things get real.  Almost like 'normal'.

1) Fall Film Fest auditions: This Tuesday and Wednesday, 10/26 and 10/27, will see a return to live auditions at IBWHS!  Information about the auditions and the film fest process are all online at ibwhsdramafilmfest.blogspot.com

2) Trick-and-Eat: Coming up this Sunday students from the (SW)2 company will go out into the community to trick or treat...for non-perishable food and hygiene product donations to support Neighborhood House and their work in our community.  We'll also be taking donations of small quantities at IBWHS if you'd like to support the work.  We're also looking for folks to go out into the neighborhood around IBWHS with us to canvas for food, and for folks to lend us wagons or carts to help transport the donations to vehicles.  Can you help?  Email Jamie Miller at mjamie@pps.net for more information...and thank you!

3) Lakewood Theatre’s Annual Young Playwrights Festival: Lakewood Theatre is currently looking for student submissions to be a part of their annual Young Playwrights Festival.  Want to get your write on, and perhaps have your piece shown during the Fertile Ground Festival early next year?  Click the link for details!

4) Shut Up! Writers' Labs:  We continue on our march toward the renewal of one of our favorite events - Shut Up! You Can't Tell Me What To Do. You're Not My Real Dad!  As many of you might know, the lead up to Shut Up! starts with writing labs to help our creatives craft the scripts that drive the show.  Want to have a great time, and generate some fantastic content?  Join us Friday after school in the Auditorium if you'd like to share in the fun with Molly and Olivia, our directors!

Hope to see all y'all soon!

A Statement Of Our Principles

In This Time... Words matter.  Anyone who knows me, and has had to endure a long-winded in-person or multi-character typewritten spiel on anything from breakfast that morning, to the minutiae of a Marvel movie, to the justification for an assignment (see below this post), knows that words matter to me greatly, and that it can take me a long time to find the right ones...especially on something as big as the things we are experiencing right now.  And yet...they're failing me in my desire to find what feels like the 'right thing' to say about this moment where the myth of equal rights and protections in our country have been laid bare in a way that has resonated bigger and more intensely than it has in a very long time. Ultimately I'm a small person in a small corner of the country's whitest major city.  I have been, and remain, phenomenally privileged in my life in every way.  I have had little to no practical exposure to bias, to bigotry, to hatred, or to violen...
